Harper - 503 days
Wow…503 days since Harper jumped onto the scene. I’m loving every minute of it. Yesterday, I raced home after a meeting with Judith to take Harper swimming in the pool at 220 Riverside. Ben and Jake were in the pool. Harper wore floaties until the lifeguard recommended that she adapt to the water without the aid of floaties around her arms.
After liberating her arms, we practiced going under water. The key is to help them anticipate going under water. We use the word “Submarine” and then we plop under for a second. Once we pop-up, the key is to look at Harper with a big smile and reassure her that going under is safe.
The first dunking was a success, then she slipped on the stairs and dunked herself. As Harper bobbed up to the surface, I grabbed her exclaiming “Submarine” over and over. Johnny on the spot. Harper looked a little flustered but made a quick recovery and resumed squealing. She’s taking to water like a baby hippo.
The plan is to make it home this evening early enough for us to have another swim adventure.
